  1. Abstract: Shoppers (like you) might be paying more attention to where their purchases come from and the resulting environmental impact these days, says Pete Lankford, a footwear industry consultant and former design director for Timberland. Shoe companies are therefore more incentivised to offer sustainable options. “The expectation is that these companies are going to be transparent,” Lankford said. “That they have standards in how they make the shoes, what materials are used and the environmental impact.” The best eco-friendly sneakers and sustainable shoes include sneakers from Allbirds (‘left), TOMS (center) and Rothy’s.

2. Alpaca: A Soft, Warm Fiber With A Better Ecological “Padprint”

  1. Abstract: Alpaca herds are easy on the land and promote a sustainable habitat. Their feet do not disturb grass root systems, because they have a soft pad similar to that of a dog. They do not live in a fragile ecology. They do not destroy root systems or land when grazing, but rather trap grass gently in their mouth without pulling from the root. They consume a small amount of water (compared to goats). Their waste can easily be used as fertilizer. Low micron count (highest quality) alpaca hair can substitute for cashmere. To gain extra softness and consistently long fiber length, silk or lyocell are also blended with alpaca.

  1. Abstract: With the launch of its biodiversity project, Decathlon has signed up to the 10 principles of the “Act4nature” France initiative. This will boost our awareness of how biodiversity is being eroded, along with the ecosystem services it provides. These services help us every day to fulfil our purpose: “To sustainably make the pleasure and benefits of sport accessible to the many”. For us, this is the beginning of a long-term policy, to transform Decathlon to make sport and exercise compatible with a resilient biodiversity drive.”

5. Starting 2020 Off Right: Consolidated Label’s Green Initiative

  1. Abstract: We are kicking off 2020 with our forever initiative to be more lean, green, and clean. We are adding dozens of new eco-friendly label and packaging materials to our portfolio including sugarcane fiber papers, compostable and biodegradable materials, recycled papers, naturally derived bio-based films, more FSC certified papers, thinner material labels for waste reduction, Cleanflake film, and more earth-conscious choices. Many of these also come with a wash-off adhesive to improve recycling or reuse. These solutions and practices will help us help the environment with our four-step environmental commitment: reduce, recycle, reuse, and renew. Additionally, we are implementing a new recycling program that converts our formerly useless waste material into compacted cubes of fuel. This program, a partnership with a company called NuCycle Energy, is preventing hundreds of thousands of tons of material waste from going to the landfill by creating an alternative fuel that releases less harmful emissions than coal or fossil fuels.
